Atari Legend - Latest News, Reviews and Interviews Legends Never Die! 2019-07-04T00:00:00Z Atari Legend News: A big batch of rare menus on Stonish 2019-07-04T00:00:00Z Brume This is not directly related to Atari Legend but rather its small sister site, . We are really proud to announce we've recently imaged most of the Supremacy menus, which is probably one of the rarest collections ever made. As great news never comes alone, we've also received many The Deliverance menus, which are really scarce, too.

The Deliverance menus are already on the site. Supremacy disks will be uploaded step by step, one per day during the holidays.

Thanks must be sent to Poliyo Soft, Razaac/Supremacy, AD/MPS, Pump/MPS, Cooper/Paradize, GT Turbo/Cerebral Vortex and Orion/Replicants for their help.

Visit the Stonish website to download all these disks and get more info on this subject. Interview: Yoda 2019-04-14T00:00:00Z Brume What? An interview with Yoda of the Marvellous V8? Unless you lived totally cut off from the world of cracking during the 80s and 90s, this group must at least ring a bell to you. The V8, who later moved on and co-created The Empire, is one of those very notorious names. Back in the day, this group managed to get all the latest games, even sometimes before they were officially released. The V8 was known to deliver quality. The person we will meet today is none other than one of the founders of the group and probably one of the most prolific pirates in the ST scene. In addition to hacking hundreds of games, Yoda also coded several intros as well as two demos. It is with great honor we present an interview with one of the most famous crackers on the Atari ST. Here we go! News: 520 days later 2019-03-05T00:00:00Z ST Graveyard 520 is a magical number in the world of Atari. Today, exactly 520 days ago, we released the new Atari Legend project. And this calls for celebration. I was hoping to have something nice for you all in store, but lately, we all have been very busy and real life has been getting in the way.

Still, a lot of great stuff happened during the past year and a half. For me personally, the biggest surprise occured in November 2017, a month after the initial release. Nico joined our development team. He has been a big help so far, teaching us how to properly code. We have had the pleasure to work with some great teams as well, releasing nice, new productions. The DB guys have been busy, adding more games and detailed info. And we have had the opportunity to talk to some very interesting people and share this with you all. 10 interviews and 19 reviews were released, which I personally still really enjoy doing. For this year, we have some big plans ahead.

I do hope to at least make some of them reality, so stay tuned. I would like to thank you all for the support. Stay Atari!

Cheers! News: Esprits Maths CE1-CE2 volume 1 (Lankhor game) 2019-02-12T00:00:00Z Brume After a break of a few weeks, we are proud to offer you again a new release: Esprits Maths CE1-CE2 volume 1.

This time it is an educational game signed by the company Lankhor. Sorry for the non-French readers, but this game is so rare that we couldn't miss it.

The awesome fullscreen intro is coded by our friend Dyno, while the logo is designed by our other friend Pandafox. Both are members of Effect, thanks to them for their efforts!

The music is signed by Epic of TMS crew and it's an unpublished track.

More to come very soon!

Download Esprits Maths CE1-CE2 volume 1 [Atari Legend] Review: Live And Let Die 2019-01-13T00:00:00Z ST Graveyard Now all of this might sound a bit much, but that really is not the biggest problem with Live and Let Die. In Buggy Boy you had checkpoints to reach in time. In this game, they have taken it all a step further...or maybe better, a whole leap further. You see, you run out of fuel when moving forward. And you run out of it fast, way fast. To solve this problem, fuel pods are scattered all over the waterway. Grab them, and you win yourself some time. Miss them and run out of fuel and guess what ... YOU EXPLODE! Review: Lethal Weapon 2018-12-28T00:00:00Z ST Graveyard I don't know what it is exactly, but for a lot of us 80' kids, the Christmas holidays are in some strange way connected with Hollywood action films. During the 'most wonderful time of the year', I never watch any Santa Claus movies, no, I'm looking for stuff like Die Hard, or Gremlins. It is becoming a strange cliché, but I love it. And I'm not the only one. Kim Justice just did a great youtube video on the subject and he inspired me to do this review. News: The Replicants are back and they have a great gift for you! 2018-12-25T00:00:00Z Brume As a last gift for Christmas, we are very proud to offer you a new release by... The Replicants! Yes, the famous French team is back, that's not a fake!

So what is the name of the game? The Replicants present Safari Guns, a French game that was never properly cracked. Orion did a fantastic job and he also multi-trained the game. You now have unlimited lives, but also max points per pictures, level selection, etc.

Also please note the game is now working on Atari Falcon, too! Yes, it has been tested on the bird machine and it works like a charm!

As good news never comes alone, their first hack after 25 years is a cross-release: it's signed by our friends of Hemoroids, but also by... Atari Legend! We are very honored to see our name associated with the famous Replicants, indeed.

The great intro has been coded by Kelly X of HMD, while Dieu made the brilliant graphics. Also don't forget the new tune composed by Dma-Sc from sector One. We really hope you'll enjoy the result as we do each time we see this Xmas intro.

Enough spoken! Time to download the game and wish a good comeback to the Replicants! Also don't miss their next release, which is an even more unexpected game.

Download Safari Guns [The Replicants - Atari Legend - Hemoroids] News: Final calender release ... or is it? 2018-12-24T00:00:00Z Marcer We whish you a merry Xmas with a nice package with Goodies for ya...We have following goodies in store :

- Willy The Kid - Damn rare title digged up by brume

- Jack Nicklaus Golf Data Disk 5 - found in the mass but not released

- Tank Game (Engine) - Found in a private collection and never released for the public before

- Bentley Bear General Store - Mono Version - Who even cared about this game? This time we offer you a rare game named Midway Battles published by TDC Distributors. Game was officially ported from 8 bit machines, but wasn't spread very well. News: Wizard's Crown: we are just in time to ascend the throne 2018-12-22T00:00:00Z Brume Wow! Just a few minutes before midnight, here is our new gift. This time, CB presents you Wizard's Crown by SSI. The game has been Falcon 030 + installation fixed. Also please note this is the English version.

Here are some words by CB:

"If you want to reinitialize the game don't use the option from main menu and instead unpack the zip file you will find in the data folder and replace all files inside Wizard.dat!"

Enjoy and download the game here. News: Another rare disk unearthed on the 21st day of our Advent 2018-12-21T00:00:00Z muguk Back in the day, there were quite a few Awesome menus and one of our team has unearthed another one that didn't see the light of day. Awesome Menu 31 is now available!

The menu contains what looks to be a horse racing game, a clay pigeon type shooting game and some WIP game engine work by Ghost/Phalanx (we think?).

Download the disk here. News: Release #20 .. OK, we found some more Infocom games! 2018-12-20T00:00:00Z muguk Down the back of CB's sofa we found the last two Gold Edition titles: Leather Goddesses of Phobos and Planetfall.
We promise that this is the last of the text adventures from Infocom.

LGoP was Infocom's first "sex farce" and featured selectable "naughtiness" levels ranging from "tame" to "lewd" and Planetfall has you playing the starring role of a lowly Ensign Seventh Class on the S.P.S. Feinstein. Have fun with either release and, because they are the Gold Editions, there are built-in Invisiclues in case you get stuck!

You can download both games in this single file.
News: Release day #19: Fashion Chipmusic Editor v1.1 2018-12-19T00:00:00Z muguk Just in case you only thought we were going to offer you yet another Infocom game, here's a special curveball that Brume found and preserved: Fashion's Chipmusic Editor v1.1.

Suffice to say that this was thought to be lost and was probably rarer than hen's teeth, until today!

The editor comes with a single music track for you to load in called 'Rebels'. A quick hint: close the Disk Op window in order to start the track playing.

Download this rare gem here.

Now go and get composing some tunes! News: Day 18 : Wishbringer 2018-12-18T00:00:00Z ST Graveyard We continue once more with another Infocom title. Today we bring you Wishbringer. Grab the download here.

From Wikipedia : Wishbringer: The Magick Stone of Dreams is an interactive fiction computer game written by Brian Moriarty and published by Infocom in 1985. It was intended to be an easier game to solve than the typical Infocom release and provide a good introduction to interactive fiction for inexperienced players, and was very well received. News: Advent release day #17: Hitchhiker's Guide (Solid Gold edition) 2018-12-17T00:00:00Z muguk The Infocom version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy became a fan favourite; it was one of five top-selling Infocom games to be produced in Solid Gold versions, with a built-in hint system not included in the originals. And AL are releasing it today!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is an interactive fiction game based on the comedic science fiction series of the same name.

It was designed by series creator / original book author Douglas Adams along with Infocom's Steve Meretzky. It was first released in 1984 for the Apple II, Macintosh, Commodore 64, CP/M, MS-DOS, Amiga, Atari 8-bit family and Atari ST. It was Infocom's fourteenth game.

As part of CB's project to ensure that all of the Infocom adventures are made available, and that they are all using the latest versions of the game files, this is the Solid Gold edition. This was never officially released on the Atari ST back in the day.

You can grab today's download using this link.

If you like Infocom's interactive fiction games, then check out our Advent Day #13 release which has the Infocom motherlode available. As you would expect from CB, they will all be using the latest versions of the game files. News: Day 16 of the AL Advent: Kayden Garth (with fixes!) 2018-12-16T00:00:00Z muguk We're now into the second half of December, so here's release 16 from the AL advent. 'Kayden Garth' was originally released commercially by EAS Software game with a very strange keyboard control system.

However, CB has come to the rescue and he dived in a fixed some of the game's innards so that you can play this game (his notes are below).

This wasn't a title I was familiar with, so a link to the CPRG Addict's blog was found. The blog author played through most of the C64 version. They managed to map a few of the dungeons and there's a link on the blog page. Maybe you fancy taking up the blog author's challenge of playing the Atari ST version and can confirm some of his suspicions about the C64 port?

Here's the download link for the CB fixed version of Kayden Garth.

Maybe, CB and the above CRPG Addict blog, are being a little bit unkind about this game? Could it be that it is just a flawed gem? It's up to you to rise to that challenge!

Let us know in the reviews section under the Kayden Garth entry in the AL database.

Finally, a quick hint from myself re: hacking the saved game file. It's called PARTY.DAT and it is in the root of the disk / hard-drive folder.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for some extra release notes from CB. They explain the keyboard changes / fixes he has done:

By default this game has the most stupid control scheme there is (keyboard only), that makes the game unplayable.

The original direction keys were awful: North? Press @ South? Press - East? Press ] or West? Press [

So I've fixed that. It now uses a more logical ZQSD (AZERTY) or WASD (QWERTY) control.

I also changed the save key from S to X.

Other keys I've left untouched:

P: Climb a ladder (in dungeons)

N: New game (Caution: there is NO warning, it starts the character creation straight away)

1-4: See character 1-4's status

L: Light a torch (dungeons only)

Space bar: Wait

There might be other controls I missed... Hopefully they are not as screwed up as the original movement keys!

News: Day 15 : Donkey Kong Jr Game 2018-12-15T00:00:00Z ST Graveyard Just a small treat today. A conversion of Donkey Kong Jr. from the Nintendo Game and Watch. Made by Neanderthal. This one runs on ST and Falcon.

Download this little game here. News: Day 14: The adventures of Maddog Williams 2018-12-14T00:00:00Z ST Graveyard Here is an obscure and rare adventure game for you all to enjoy : The Adventures of Maddog Williams. Originally cracked by the Replicants and now perfected by CB.

Some words from CB : "I exchanged the password questions with their answers because I'm not sure the version was fully cracked. There is a password check right before the beginning but there should be another one in chapter 4 from what I've read. I did this patch just to be on the safe side!"

Download the game here. News: Advent release day #13: Calling all Interactive Fiction fans! 2018-12-13T00:00:00Z muguk Today's release is the mini-motherlode for all fans of interactive fiction as released by Infocom.

CB (yes, it's him again!) from FGC has been compiling and testing the very latest versions of all of the Infocom releases. The majority of these probably aren't the ones that we got to see back in the day, but some of them are the bug-fixed versions released later on other machines / fixed by fans of the games.

Click this link to grab the best collection of Infocom adventures.

In total, there are 11 disks inside today's .ZIP file, plus two more disks which have the complete collection of Invisiclues. These are what Infocom called the hint sheets that used to come with the original games.

The heavy amount of work that CB has put into these disks includes the following:

- Dual interpreters: the .PRGs will launch the old Infocom interpreter. Clicking on the .DAT files will launch the games via JZIP 2.1 which is more advanced, but also slower.

- Invisiclues for all Infocom games: they are in the HINTS folder and have to be launched with JZIP (just click the .DAT files).

- A tutorial is included on the first disk.

- Chronological order: CB has regrouped the official Infocom games by series or chronological order of release as much as possible.

- Bonus stuff: He has also included: Encyclopedia Frobozzica, the German Zork beta, and two other games: Zork: A Troll's Eyes View and the original classic game 'Adventure'. All bonuses are to be launched with JZIP for them to work.

The disk contents are:

Disk 1:

-Infocom Tutorial

-Zork I Rel. 88

-Zork II Rel. 48

-Zork III Rel. 17

Disk 2:

-Beyond Zork Rel. 57

-Zork: The Undiscovered Underground Rel. 16

-Encyclopedia Frobozzica (bonus)

Disk 3:

-Enchanter Rel. 29

-Sorcerer Rel. 18

-Spellbreaker Rel. 87

Disk 4:

-Planetfall Rel. 37

-Stationfall Rel. 107

-Deadline Rel. 27

-Starcross Rel. 17

Disk 5:

-Suspended Rel. 8

-The Witness Rel. 22

-Infidel Rel. 22

-Seastalker Rel. 16

Disk 6:

-Cutthroats Rel. 23

-The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Rel. 59

-Suspect Rel. 14

Disk 7:

-A Mind Forever Voyaging Rel. 79

-Wishbringer Rel. 69

-Ballyhoo Rel. 97

Disk 8:

-Hollywood Hijinx Rel. 37

-Leather Goddesses of Phobos Rel. 59

-Moonmist Rel. 9

Disk 9:

-Trinity Rel. 12

-Borderzone Rel. 9

-Zork German beta (bonus)

Disk 10:

-The Lurking Horror Rel. 221

-Bureaucracy Rel. 116

-Adventure Rel. 9 (bonus)

-Zork: A Troll's Eye View Rel. 3 (bonus)

Disk 11:

-Nord & Bert Rel. 19

-Plundered Hearts Rel. 26

-Sherlock : The Riddle of the Crown Jewels Rel. 26

(And don't forget the two disks of Invisiclues also, but this is just an added extra as the relevant Invisiclues are included on the separate disks as well)

As we don't just do Atari machines here, clicking this link will take you directly into the collection of interpreters that are available for other machines on the Interactive Fiction website.

Why? Because we're nice like that! News: Our 12th release is 'Spirit of Adventure' by Starbyte 2018-12-12T00:00:00Z muguk In a medieval fantasy world, strange drugs appear that create an addiction among the population. It appears that they are all coming from one central point that is controlled by a mysterious stranger. The player controls a group of heroes in this role-playing game as he tries to find out the origins of the drug and to break down on the man who is responsible for them.

Today's release is a special one because Spirit of Adventure was never officially released in English by Starbyte way back in 1991.

CB of FGC worked his magic on it. He used the English PC version's files to translate the bulk of the original German version and then dived into the executable and fine-tuned the translation once more. Some of the fixes he has implemented ensure that the ST version more complete than the original PC one!

Download

Get your copy of the game here.

The download contains 3 x ZIPs (one each for the English, French and German versions). Within each separate language version is the .MSA disk image, or the files version for your hard-drive (real or emulated).

Hints and tips:

CB has these tips for those wanting to play this game:

-A good party is composed of 2 warriors and/or amazons, 1 samurai or banshee, 1 priest or faery, 2 magicians and/or godesses.

-Each character gets one magic skill when created, the mandatory ones are compass (puts a compass in the bottom right corner of the screen), armor (better defense for the whole party), regen (magic regeneration over time), wielder (better attack for the whole party), healer (HP regen when out of combat for the whole party) and booster (mind points regen for the whole party). YOU HAVE TO ACTIVATE EACH SKILL IN THE CHARACTER SCREEN.

-You start with a few weapons; you also have to activate them in the inventory.

-The game is in real time; if you don't move, time will pass but you will not be attacked by random enemies. The combats are not in real time, but negative effects like poison are. Also, there is a day/night cycle, and even week days. Some places may be closed during specific days.

-Dwarves give a nice amount of gold when killed (usually 100 GP).

-Don't waste mind attacks on stupid animals like bats or spiders.

-Samurais and banshees can (and should) be equipped with dual weapons. And buy your priest a bow and a lot of arrows.

-Gaining levels takes a lot of time, even the first level requires 1000 experience points. The enemies in the first town only give 5-20 XP depending on their strengh and number...

-Food rations are consumed real fast when travelling on the main map. There are of no use inside cities.

-Some shortcuts: num keys on main keyboard can be used for most menus, Y/N should also work, and to get back to the previous menu sometimes N or B can be used. To give an item to someone else, you have to click once on it then click on the name of the character you want to give it to. Hit CTRL-U to use an equiped item.
